Privacy Policy
Fun Facts: Daily Knowledge is a general-knowledge reading app developed by HDFoundry. This policy describes what the app collects, why, and what it never does. It is written to match the app as it actually behaves, and it is updated when the app changes.
The short version
You can start reading without an account and without giving us anything. The app signs you in anonymously so your progress can be saved, and you may link an Apple or Google account if you want a backup or a second device. We store your reading progress, likes, saves, streak and game results on our server so they can sync. The app uses Google Firebase for sign-in, crash reports, usage analytics and notifications. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, and we never sell your information.
Signing in
Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication.
- Anonymous sign-in. When you first open the app, Firebase creates an anonymous account identified by a random user ID. It contains nothing about who you are.
- Optional Apple or Google sign-in. If you choose to link an account in Settings, Firebase receives the identifier and, where the provider shares them, the name and email address on that account. If you use Sign in with Apple you may hide your email address. We use these only to sign you in and restore your data; they are never shown to anyone and never used for marketing.
What our server stores
The app syncs with our own server at hdfoundry.io.vn, linked to your Firebase user ID, so your activity survives a reinstall or follows you to another device:
- Your reading progress and the articles you have read.
- Articles you like and save.
- Your reading streak, XP and daily activity.
- Quiz and brain game results.
- The subjects you picked during setup and your app settings, such as theme and reminder time.
- The platform and app version you use, so we can fix problems in the right version.
Reports you send us
If you tap Report on an article, we receive the article, the reason you chose, any text you write, and your user ID, so we can review and correct the content. Please do not include personal information in a report.
Analytics and crash reports
- Firebase Analytics records how the app is used: which screens are opened, articles read, quizzes and games played. Alongside these it collects your device model, operating system version, and an approximate location that Google derives from your IP address. It is never GPS or precise location.
- Firebase Crashlytics sends us a crash report when the app fails: where in the code it happened, the device model and system version, and what the app was doing at the time.
We use these only to fix problems and improve the app. Google processes this data on our behalf as our service provider, under Firebase's own privacy documentation.
Notifications
The app can send a daily reminder at the time you choose, and occasional notifications such as a new daily article. It uses Firebase Cloud Messaging. If you allow notifications, your device is issued a notification token that is sent to our server together with your reminder time and time zone, so the reminder arrives at the right hour. The token identifies a device, not you. You can turn reminders off in the app's Settings or all notifications in your device settings, and nothing in the app requires them.
What is stored only on your device
Articles kept for offline reading, images, the home screen widget's daily article and your local settings are held on your device. Deleting the app removes them.
What we do not do
- No ads. The app shows no advertising and contains no advertising SDK.
- No in-app purchases in the current version.
- No sale of data. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers.
- No tracking across other apps or websites, and no advertising identifier used for tracking.
- No precise location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera. The app does not ask for these permissions.
Who else sees your data
- Google Firebase, for sign-in, analytics, crash reports and notifications, as described above.
- Apple or Google, only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Cloudflare, which sits in front of our server and handles the network traffic between the app and the server, including your IP address, to deliver and protect the service.
- Our hosting provider, a virtual private server on which our server and its database run.
Data travels to our server over an encrypted connection.
Article content and sources
Articles are adapted and shortened from Wikipedia with AI assistance, and are shared under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence (CC BY-SA 4.0). Every article links to its source page and licence, and every image is credited to its author. This adaptation happens on our side before an article reaches the app; nothing you read or write is sent to an AI service. Fun Facts is not endorsed by or affiliated with the Wikimedia Foundation.
Deleting your account and your data
In the app: open Settings → Account → Delete account and confirm. Your account is removed from Firebase Authentication, and your progress, likes, saves, streak, game results, settings and notification tokens are erased from our server.
By email: if you no longer have the app, write to [email protected] with the subject “Delete my account”. Include the email of the Apple or Google account you linked, if any, so we can find your account. We will confirm once it is deleted, normally within 30 days.
Reports you submitted may be kept, without your user ID, so that corrected content stays corrected. Data held by Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics follows Firebase's own retention settings and is not linked to your name. Content stored on your device stays there until you delete the app.
Children
Fun Facts is intended for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app, write to us and we will delete the data.
Changes to this policy
When the app changes in a way that affects this policy, the policy is updated and the date at the top of this page changes with it.
