Built to respect AO3,
and to protect you.

ArchFic gives you a faster, more polished AO3 experience (offline reading, on-device translation, and text-to-speech) while respecting AO3 and protecting your account and data.

A browser, but better

Pages load straight from AO3 to your device: nothing is copied or stored on our servers. On top, ArchFic adds offline downloads, on-device translation, text-to-speech, and a clean, customizable reader.

We never see your AO3 password

You sign in on AO3's own page. ArchFic keeps only an encrypted session on your device, exactly like a browser does.

Within AO3’s terms

ArchFic is free to download, and reading AO3 content is always free. It’s unofficial and unaffiliated, and never claims to be AO3 or uses its logo.

Your data stays yours

Optional sign-in backs up only lightweight references: work IDs, the authors you follow, your collections and settings. Never fanwork text; we never sell your data or track what you read.

No account required

Browse, read, download, translate, and listen completely anonymously. Signing in is optional and only adds cloud backup.

You’re in control

Turn off sync, sign out, or delete your synced data at any time, from Settings or by asking us.

ArchFic is not affiliated with or endorsed by AO3 or the OTW. Read our Privacy Policy and Terms for the full details.

Frequently asked.

Everything you might be wondering about ArchFic.

Is ArchFic free?
Yes. ArchFic is free to download and the core reading experience is free to use. To support ongoing development we may introduce optional ads or paid extras in the future, but reading fanfiction from AO3 will always stay free.
Is ArchFic affiliated with Archive of Our Own?
No. ArchFic is an independent third-party reader application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by Archive of Our Own or the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW). All fanfiction content displayed in the app remains the property of their respective authors and is served directly from AO3's public website. ArchFic works like a browser, loading AO3 pages directly to your device, never storing or charging for fanworks, and operates within AO3's terms of service.
Is it safe to sign in? Can ArchFic see my AO3 password?
No. When you connect your AO3 account, you log in on AO3's own page inside the app: ArchFic never sees or stores your password, only an encrypted session kept on your device, just like a browser. The optional ArchFic account for cloud backup uses Google or Apple sign-in and is completely separate from AO3.
Can I read offline?
Absolutely. Any work can be downloaded for offline reading, with the full chapter content stored securely on your device. Translation models also work offline once the corresponding language pack is downloaded, ideal for flights, commutes, or low-connectivity environments.
Why do I sometimes see a Cloudflare check?
AO3 secures its infrastructure with Cloudflare protection. ArchFic integrates this verification step transparently inside the app, so when AO3 requires a new session, you simply complete the check once and continue reading uninterrupted. Sessions remain valid for hours of normal usage.
Do I need an account?
No. You can browse, read, build a library, download for offline, and use TTS and translation completely anonymously. Signing in is optional: it backs up your library, collections, and follows to the cloud and syncs them across your devices, and it can import your AO3 bookmarks, history, and subscriptions.
Will I lose my library or bookmarks?
No. Works you download stay on your device and remain readable even if a fic is later deleted, orphaned, or locked on AO3. And when you sign in, your library, collections, and follows are backed up to the cloud and synced across devices, so they survive a new phone or a reinstall.
What does ArchFic store on its servers?
Only metadata: your library, collections, follows, and settings, plus public work details (title, author, tags) used to send new-chapter alerts. ArchFic never stores, hosts, or copies AO3 fanwork content. Chapters always load directly from AO3 to your device.
How does Text-to-Speech work?
ArchFic reads any story aloud using the voices already built into your phone: 100+ voices spanning languages like English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Pick a voice, fine-tune speed and pitch, and the reader auto-scrolls in sync with the narration, great for hands-free reading on commutes, workouts, or long sessions.
Which languages can I translate to?
ArchFic translates chapters into 50+ languages, right on your device. Popular ones include English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Hindi, Arabic, and Thai, plus 40+ more. Translation runs locally and works offline once you download a language, so no chapter text ever leaves your phone.
Where can I report bugs or request features?
Open the app and navigate to Settings, then Feedback, to submit a bug report or feature request directly to our team. Every submission is reviewed, triaged, and considered for inclusion in upcoming releases.
