Word Puzzles Terms of Service
These terms cover your use of Word Puzzles, a word game developed by HDFoundry. Installing or using the app means you accept them.
The app is free to use
Word Puzzles is free. There is no subscription, no energy bar to refill, and nothing you must buy or watch in order to play. A future version is planned to show advertising and to offer a purchase that removes it; the current version contains neither.
Your account
An account is optional. If you create one, you are responsible for keeping your password to yourself, and for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think someone else is using it.
You can ask us to delete your account at any time from inside the app, in Settings. The request opens a seven-day window, and you can cancel it at any point inside that window.
Nicknames and the leaderboard
Your nickname is shown to other players. By setting one you agree not to use a name that is offensive, hateful, sexually explicit, or that impersonates another person, HDFoundry, or our staff.
We may reset a nickname that breaks this rule, without notice. Nicknames are screened when set and can be reported by any player. Repeatedly setting names that break the rule may cost you access to the leaderboard.
The leaderboards also include the app's own solvers while they are filling up, which the app tells you inside the leaderboard itself. They play the same daily puzzles and are scored the same way.
Fair play
Do not tamper with the app or its network traffic to change results, and do not try to obtain puzzle content other than by playing. Every result is scored on our server by replaying the submitted solution, so a claimed score is not accepted from the app. Results we believe were not earned by playing may be removed.
What belongs to whom
The app, its design, its artwork and its puzzle content belong to HDFoundry. You may play with them; you may not copy, redistribute, or build a product on them.
Word validation uses the ENABLE word list, which is in the public domain. Typefaces are licensed under the SIL Open Font License. Word Puzzles is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any other word game or its publisher.
Guess follows a long line of word-guessing games: Lingo, Mastermind and Jotto. We credit Josh Wardle, whose version brought the idea to millions. Those games' rules are not ours and are not claimed as ours; the way this app presents them is.
Offline play, and what it does not promise
The app downloads puzzle packs and then plays them without a connection. It needs a connection at least once to fetch them, and to sync results and leaderboards. We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted, and a puzzle you have not downloaded cannot be played offline.
No warranty
The app is provided as it is. We work to keep it correct and stable, but we do not warrant that it is free of faults, and to the extent the law allows we are not liable for loss arising from using it. Nothing here removes a right you have that cannot be removed by agreement.
Ending this agreement
You can stop at any time by deleting the app, and ask us to delete your account with it. We may suspend access to the leaderboard, or to the service, if these terms are broken.
Changes to these terms
When they change, the date at the top of this page changes with them. Continuing to use the app after that means accepting the revised terms.
